It's the first day of school, and everyone is coming in eager and ready to learn. Everyone at school is unique in their own way; everyone starts their morning differently, dress differently, and are from all over the world, and all are welcomed at school! The classroom is a place to let go of fears and learn to dream big. A place where everyone can laugh play, sing, draw and share stories. At lunchtime, everyone eats different foods from their cultures. After lunch, everyone rushes outside to pay on the playground. Everyone is different and a "part of a community, where there is strength in diversity". In school, everyone learns and grows with one another. After a long hard day of school, everyone goes home to rest and get ready for tomorrow. A school is a place for everyone, a place where all are welcome.
All are Welcome is such a beautiful and diverse story that would make an excellent addition to any PreK-1st-grade classroom library. The main purpose of All are Welcome is to show students that our differences are what make us special, and in schools, diversity should be celebrated. School is a safe place for everyone where all students can learn and grow together. I think this is a wonderful book to read to students on the first day of school. The book itself is so vibrant and even the illustrations are incredible showing all different types of cultures, religions, families, and students with disabilities. I believe it would be such a nice story to start the school year with. Afterwards, a big sheet of butcher paper could be brought out and students could draw themselves on a section of the butcher paper and sign it with their hand print with the words largely written across the top "All are Welcome Here" and hang it in the front of the classroom. Therefore, providing students with a daily reminder of the story they read on the first day of class and that the class is a safe place for everyone.
